Twenty people onboard a distressed roll-on roll-off vessel were rescued off Loco Loco point in San Juan, Batangas, the Philippine Coast Guard reported Friday.
MV Lolo Uweng was conducting sea trial when it developed engine trouble Friday morning about 8.5 nautical miles south of Loco Loco point, the PCG said.
The vessel was dropping anchor when it got “entangled with the chain of a navigational bouy,” it said in a statement.
The PCG used helicopters to rescue the ship’s 13 crew members, five contractors, a guide and a security guard.
They were brought to Calapan City and later flown to Manila onboard a PCG Islander aircraft.
The rescued crew members and employees were all in good condition, the PCG said.
