PCG halts travel for small vessels amid Super Typhoon Goring threat

The Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog issued a travel suspension Tuesday, August 29, for all watercrafts below 250 gross tonnage (GT) navigating from the port of Batangas to several provinces in the region due to rough seas.

Super Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola), coupled with the southwest monsoon, is projected to bring strong gale force winds, primarily affecting the western and southern Seaboards of Southern Luzon.

The travel ban, in response to the gale warning issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, impacts routes to the following provinces:

  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Marinduque
  • Romblon
  • Polillo Group of Islands
  • Northern Quezon
  • Batangas
  • Southern Quezon
  • Occidental Mindoro

Mariners are advised to await clearance for resumption of trips, which will be granted when weather and sea conditions are deemed safe by Pagasa.
