Schools close in 4 Occidental Mindoro towns amid flood warnings

Classes from pre-school through Grade 12 have been suspended today, August 30, in four towns in Occidental Mindoro due to flood threats exacerbated by the enhanced southwest monsoon and Super Typhoon Goring.

The towns of Paluan, Abra de Ilog, Mamburao, and Santa Cruz are on orange alert, indicating expected heavy rainfall and potential flooding, according to a 5 a.m. bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In accordance with the 2022 Department of Education Order, classes both in-person and online, including work, up to Grade 12 and the Alternative Learning System, are automatically suspended in areas under Pagasa orange and red rainfall and flood advisories.

No announcement was made for college and other higher level of education.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been issued for the towns of Lubang, Looc, Sablayan, Calintaan, Rizal, San Jose, and Magsaysay, indicating possible flooding.

Classes at San Jose National High School and office operations have been cancelled for the day.
