A P1-billion road project that will connect Oriental and Occidental Mindoro has been inaugurated.

In a simple ground-breaking ceremony, Oriental Mindoro officials officially started the Puerto Galera-Abra de Ilog Road Construction Project.

The road will connect the tourism town of Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro to Abra de Ilog of Occidental Mindoro. Currently, travel between the two towns is done via the sea route.

The office of Representative Rodolfo Valencia of Oriental Mindoro’s first district is bankrolling the project’s Puerto Galera part through the lawmaker’s Priority Development Assistance Fund or pork barrel.

Valencia said the road project, when completed, will be a welcome development for many Mindoreño travellers from both provinces.

Aside from Valencia, Puerto Galera Mayor Hubbert Dolor also attended the ground-breaking ceremony in Brgy. Aninuan, Puerto Galera.
