The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed a ₱27.8-million road widening project in Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro.
The project covers the construction of an additional 3.5-meter wide pavement and 2.5-meter wide shoulders on both sides, along the 1.5-kilometer portion of the Mindoro West Coastal Road in Barangay Dayap.
Director Gerald A. Pacanan of DPWH Region 4-B reported that the project also includes the construction of stone masonry, box culvert, and intermittent grouted rip rap slope protection structure on critical areas.
The project was implemented by the DPWH Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Office and funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act.
The road widening project aims to improve mobility and facilitate easier transport of agricultural goods, services, and people from Sitio Cuarenta in Barangay Dayap to the town proper.
The coastal town of Sta. Cruz is known for its natural resources and picturesque tourist sites such as the Carindan Lake and Taklala Falls, and the project is expected to promote tourism and enhance economic activity in the area.
The completion of the road widening project is expected to benefit the local community by providing better accessibility, transportation, and a safer and more comfortable travel experience.
