A 74-year-old woman died after jumping onto the tracks of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) and being hit by a train in Quezon City on Wednesday.
The woman, identified as Irinea Aguinaldo, leaped from the southbound platform of the Quezon Avenue station in Barangay South Triangle at around 11:58 a.m., said the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Police said closed-circuit television footage showed Aguinaldo dashing in front of an oncoming train.
First aid responders extricated the victim from the tracks and rushed her to the nearby East Avenue Medical Center for medical treatment. However, despite efforts by physicians, Aguinaldo died at around 2:20 p.m.
Meanwhile, the MRT-3 line management apologized for the inconvenience caused by the incident and implemented a provisional service between Shaw Boulevard and Taft Avenue stations while Aguinaldo was being rescued.
The incident caused the evacuation of passengers on the affected southbound train at Quezon Avenue Station, but MRT-3 operations resumed their full service at 1:20 p.m.
DOTr Assistant Secretary for Railways and MRT-3 officer-in-charge Jorjette Aquino earlier said that the passenger was found alive and breathing before being brought to the hospital.
