A total of 1,154 cargo trucks and passenger cars were able to board ferries at the port of Calapan City shortly after midnight on Tuesday, but new vehicles quickly took their place, causing long queues kilometers away from the port.
According to the Public Safety Department of Calapan City, 60 private vehicles and 52 cargo trucks were able to leave the city port aboard roll-on-roll-off ships headed for Batangas City as of 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday.
However, 112 vehicles were still waiting for their turn to board the ships, which typically operate 24 hours during peak seasons such as the end of long holiday breaks.
As of 7 p.m. on Monday, a total of 1,063 vehicles had been processed for boarding, reflecting the heavy volume of traffic during the holiday period.
