Actress Ruffa Gutierrez has lost a labor complaint filed by her former house help, who claimed to have been fired without receiving their salaries.
According to P3PWD Party-List Rep. Rowena Guanzon, the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) ruled in favor of the two women who filed the complaint.
Gutierrez was ordered to pay an aggregate amount of P13,299.92, including unpaid wages and pro-rated 13th-month pay, within ten days.
Guanzon took to Twitter on April 1 to thank those who assisted the house helpers from Negros Occidental, who sought her help in the complaint against Gutierrez. She also released a video message addressed to the actress, urging her to settle the case and learn to treat her domestic staff with respect.
“Maging leksyon ito sa mga amo na ituring naman pong tao na may damdamin yung mga kasambahay ninyo. Sana po ay maayos na ito. Nananawagan ako kay Ruffa Gutierrez na ayusin na niya ito, i-settle na nya. Ang gusto lang naman ng mga kasambahay na ito ay makapagtrabaho ng maayos, at ituring ng maayos,” Guanzon said in the video.
The complaint was filed by Gutierrez’s former house helpers before the NLRC in July 2022, alleging that they were dismissed from their duties without receiving their wages. Despite dismissing the claims as “black propaganda,” Gutierrez’s legal counsel failed to defend her client against the ruling of the labor commission.
