Magnitude 5 quake rocks northern Mindoro

A magnitude 5 earthquake shook northern Mindoro island and other parts of Luzon on August 9, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

The quake, which struck at 12:49 p.m., centered 36 kilometers northwest of Paluan. It had a depth of 24 km.

It was felt at Intensity IV in the Occidental Mindoro towns of Paluan, Abra de Ilog and Mamburao.

Intensity III was felt in Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro and Tagaytay City.

Intensity II in Calapan City, Victoria in Oriental Mindoro, and in Batangas City, Bauan in Batangas province.

In Pasay City, the tremor was felt at Intensity I.

There was no reported damage or injury from the offshore quake.
