PUERTO PRINCESA CITY—The National Food Authority (NFA)-Palawan is set to distribute 144.32 sacks of iron-fortified rice or I-Rice at day care centers in the towns of Busuanga and Coron of the Calamianes Group of Islands.
The P180,000-worth sacks of rice are a part of the first Supplemental Feeding Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development which aims to address the problem of malnutrition among children.
A total of 1,804 children in 61 day care centers in the municipalities will benefit from the 40-day feeding program.
I-Rice is a national program of the NFA designed to curb micronutrients deficiency, particularly in iron, among children in the country.
A study of the Food and Nutrition Research Institute shows that one of five Filipino children suffers from anemia due to iron deficiency.
NFA-Palawan is headed by a new officer-in-charge, Gondelina U. Aldan from Batangas.
