Mayor Doy Leachon is one of the nine Filipinos chosen by New York-based Asia Society to be a part of its Asia program this year.
Leachon was picked as among this year’s honorees from more than 100 nominees, with the non-profit group citing his performance as mayor of Calapan City.
He, together with nine other Filipinos, will take part in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit in New Delhi, India, where 200 young leaders from the Asia Pacific region will gather.
The Asia Society seeks to hone the next generation of Asian leaders who can provide collaborative and creative solutions to various issues in the region.
This year’s batch also includes Philippine Daily Inquirer business reporter Maria Doris Dumlao, lawyer Lesley Jeanne Cordero of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Meralco corporate social responsibility chief Jeffrey Tarayao, Alliance of Young Leaders and Advocates International Inc. national president Alvin Cloyd Dakis, Michael Sandejas of the arts and culture sector, Anthill Fabric Gallery founder Joy Anya Lim, and educators Soledad Sylvia Nubla-Lee (Pathways to Higher Education), and Annalie Edday (Quality Education in Sarangani Today).
