Classes up to high school suspended in Mindoro

Classes up to high school level are suspended Wednesday in Occidental Mindoro as Tropical Storm Juaning intensifies while heading toward Quezon province.

In Oriental Mindoro, classes in preschool, both public and private, are suspended, the Department of Education said in its 9 p.m. advisory.

Both provinces are under public storm signal number 1.

In other parts of the Mimaropa region, preschool classes are suspended in Marinduque and Romblon, which are also under storm signal 1.

In Metro Manila, classes up to high school level are suspended while the decision on the tertiary level will depend on officials of the higher education institutions, officials said.

Juaning intensified further even as it slowed down while moving west northwest at 11 kilometers per hour, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services said in its 11 p.m. bulletin.

The storm has maximum winds of 85 kph near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph and continues to threaten Southern and Central Luzon, including Metro Manila.
