A modern slaughterhouse being built in Calapan City is expected to be opened in December.
It will replace the city’s old and unsanitary abattoir and will be built in Barangay San Vicente West through a build operate and transfer (BOT) scheme.
The new slaughterhouse will be operated by private firms in a move seen to ensure a high standard of meat being sold in the city market. Calapan hopes to get an “AA” marking from the National Meat Inspection Service.
The project is also expected to generate P80 in income for the city government during the 30-year privatized operations of the slaughterhouse.
