The Department of Energy (DOE) has chosen Oriental Mindoro as one of pilot provinces for the Green Energy Project, Governor Alfonso Umali announced.
Umali said the province’s inclusion in the DOE project was made during a Cabinet meeting with President Benigno Aquino. Umali is a member of the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC).
He said it is a recognition of Oriental Mindoro’s vast sources of natural and renewable energy.
Umali, together with First District Congressman Rodolfo G. Valencia, Economic and Development Director General Cayetano Paderanga and DOE Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras, recently signed a memorandum of agreement with Brulli Energia to build a 16-megawatt wind power plant as part of a 44-megawatt energy project.
Its groundbreaking ceremony in Puerto Galera is set on April 15.
