A 5.1 earthquake struck at 3:06 a.m. Friday off Looc, on Lubang Island, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The offshore quake hit 16 kilometers southeast of Looc at an intermediate depth of 78 kilometers.
There were no reports of damage or injuries.
The Philippines, like Japan, sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
