MANILA—Two passenger buses collided in Matnog, Sorsogon shortly after midnight Thursday, killing six passengers and wounding 30 others.
Eagle Star Bus, which originated from Manila, was overtaking another when it rammed into a PP Bus Line unit, said Matnog police chief Senior Inspector Jeffrey Cereno.
Cereno said the PP Bus driver, Ronnie Sulutan Olaman Jr., tried to steer away from the oncoming bus but the vehicle was still hit on its side, instantly killing four passengers.
Fifteen of the injured passengers were rushed to the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital while the rest were brought to the Bicol Regional Teaching and training Hospital in Albay. Two of those brought to the Sorsogon hospital were declared dead on arrival.
Cereno said that most of the victims were from Leyte.
“Sa ngayon, masusing imbestigasyon ang aming ginagawa upang makuha ang kumpletong detalye bago namin tuluyang ipalabas ang pinal na mga mga pangalan ng biktima,” Cereno said.
