Power, TV, telecom firms agree to clean up messy wires in Calapan

Electric wires, telecom and TV cables hang like spider webs along the streets in Calapan and the city government finds them an eyesore.

Soon they won’t be as concerned companies vowed to abide by Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 221 that seeks to clean up the wire mess.

In a recent meeting, the city government of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ormeco), telecommunication companies and cable television networks agreed that unnecessary dropped wires will be taken out.

Leaning posts will also be fixed, they said.

Company executives present during the meeting were Ademar Dela Chica of Calapan Telephone System, Inc. (CATSI), Ruben Concepcion of Globe Telecom, Aurelio Atienza II of Calapan Cable Channel, Lala Alamar of Tamaraw Vision Network, and Jun Telebrico of Bayantel.

Vice Mayor Jojo S. Perez said cooperation of these companies are crucial in the effective implementation of the city resolution.

To avoid causing inconvenience to the public, rewiring works will be done during off-peak hours.

Engr. Phil Buela of the City Engineering and Public Works Department is the designated project coordinator.

The project is part of Mayor Doy C. Leachon’s New Calapan Program, which features improved facilities and physical landscapes in a bid to boost the city’s tourism potentials.
