Calapan City to ban plastic bags

Calapan City will soon join the growing number of towns and cities in the country implementing a “no plastic” policy.

“If other cities can do this why not in Calapan?” said Mayor Doy Leachon during a climate change forum at the Divine Word College of Calapan.

He said the city will start the ban on plastic use beginning April 1.

Senator Loren Legarda, who was one of the guest speakers during the forum sponsored by the DWCC Alumni Association, underscored the need for careful but decisive action to arrest climate change.

“We must realize that every decision we make with regard to disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation is crucial to our survival. We must plan carefully but swiftly,” Legarda said.

Los Banos, Laguna, Muntinlupa, Batangas City are some of the areas in the country that outlawed the use of plastic.
