A 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck off Basco, Batanes at 3:18 p.m. on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The tectonic quake hit 117 kilometers northwest of the northern town at a shallow depth of 48 kilometers.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the moderate tremor.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic actity.
