Earthquakes successively hit Mamburao on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
But the tectonic tremors were both feeble and no damage or injuries were expected.
The latest quake, with 2.3 magnitude, hit at 11:22 p.m. on Wednesday about 100 kilometers southwest of Mamburao at a shallow depth of 26 kilometers. Its possible source was the Manila trench, Phivolcs said.
On Tuesday, a 1.9 magnitude tremor hit at 11:24 a.m. about 38 kilometers southwest of the Occidental Mindoro capital.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are of some interest for geologists but they have no impact on the surface. People can hardly notice these tremors. Your articles might be scaring people a bit for no good reason. Report earthquakes with magnitude >4; at least they can be felt.
