QUEZON CITY—The House of Representatives passed on final reading the proposed sports high school in all regions.
“Sports is one of the vital ingredients towards total human resource development and one of the foundations for a healthy citizenry,” said Representative Juan Edgardo Angara, author of one of the two original bills (HB 2528) consolidated under HB 3825.
steered through plenary by the committee on Basic Education and Culture chaired by Rep. Salvador Escudero III.
Angara stressed that the establishment of the Philippine High School for Sports is in consonance with the mandate of the 1987 Constitution.
The bill seeks to develop world class athletes who shall represent the country in international tournaments and encourage the youth to aspire for excellence in sports and in education.
Key provisions of HB 3825 include free scholarships and a basic secondary education course with special emphasis on developing the athletic skills of the students and training the youth for sports competitions.
