PALAWAN—A radio commentator in Palawan was shot dead by a lone gunman early Monday.
Dr. Gerardo Ortega of Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) Palawan was shot in the head and died on the spot inside a garments store in Puerto Princesa City.
Witnesses said Ortega was shopping for clothes when he was attacked by the gunman, who immediately fled on foot after the victim slumped dead on the floor.
Ortega, a former board member who once ran for governor, was a staunch critic of the current provincial administration and of the mining projects in Palawan.
The suspected gunman was arrested by the city police and currently undergoing investigation.
Ortega was an anchor of RMN local affiliate DWAR’s daily primetime commentary “Ramatak”.
