MANILA—The Liberal Party elected Governor Alfonso Umali Jr. as the ruling party’s treasurer during its national council meeting held at Club Filipino in Greenhills Wednesday.
This as majority of the 150 members present in the party meeting reelected former senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas II as its president.
President Benigno Aquino was elected chairman with Senator Franklin M. Drilon and House Speaker Feliciano R. Belmonte, Jr. as vice chairmen.
Local Government Secretary Jesse M. Robredo was reelected executive vice-president and Cavite Representative Joseph Emilio Abaya was again chosen as the party’s secretary general.
Batanes Representative Henedina R. Abad, meanwhile, is vice-president for policy.
Umali, a staunch ally of Aquino, has been ordered suspended by the Sandiganbayan as his graft case is being retried by the special court.
