Calapan City celebrates Rizal Day

Education, local government and civic groups joined in celebrating Rizal Day in Calapan City on Thursday.

The Department of Education Division of Calapan City spearheaded the commemoration of Dr. Jose Rizal’s heroism.

About 40 members of the Tamaraw Lodge No. 65 Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines and the International Order of Demolay Sesinando Bugarin Chapter joined the parade from DepEd division office at the Macario Adriatico Memorial School to the Rizal monument at the Calapan City Plaza.

The Freemasons conducted the traditional wreath-laying at the monument.

Rizal was a Freemason. He joined the Acacia Lodge No. 9 of the Gran Oriente de Espana in 1884.

Rizal was executed by firing squad by the Spanish colonizers at the Bagumbayan (now Rizal Park) in Manila on December 30, 1896.
