4.8 quake hits southern Mindanao

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake shook southern Mindanao at 1:03 p.m. Sunday, the US Geological Survey said.

The moderate quake was not expected to cause damage.

The inland tremor struck 60 kilometers northwest of General Santos City at a depth of 59.4 kilometers.

The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
