Two branches of the Provincial Hospital in Oriental Mindoro have been formally inaugurated as the province steps up efforts to provide better health facilities for Mindoreños.
The P27-million Provincial Hospital-Pinamalayan Branch, with a 25-bed capacity that will primarily serve Pinamalayan and its neighboring towns, was inaugurated in October.
Last month, the Provincial Hospital-Roxas Branch also began operations just as the Basic Emergency Maternal and Obstetrics Care Center at the Gloria Hospital was inaugurated.
Governor Alfonso Umali Jr.—together with Vice-Governor Humerlito A. Dolor, Mayor Wilfredo L. Hernandez, Bokal Romeo G. Infantado, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Normando Legaspi, Provincial Hospital OIC Dr. George Palomaria and Dr. Guillermo Gonzales—led the formal inauguration of the Pinamalayan hospital.
Umali promised to provide additional equipment and healthcare personnel for the hospital.
“Tinitiyak ko sa inyo na nakahanda ang aking pamunuan na tuluy-tuloy na umaalalay sa operasyon ng ospital. Maglalaan tayo ng karagdagang pasilidad at maging ng mga empleyado, doctor at nurses,” he said.
Dolor, on the other hand, challenged the hospital staff to provide quality healthcare services for the people.
“Walang halaga ang ganda ng bagong gusali kung hindi ang mataas na kalidad ng serbisyo ang ipagkakaloob sa mga mamamayan,” said Dolor.
In April next year, the Oriental Mindoro Medical Center will begin providing health service for the people of Mindoro and other provinces in the Mimaropa region.
This is a tangible accomplishment if Gov.Umali is responsible for making this hospitals open and not just completion of what has been started by the past Governor. Nonetheless, his commitment to provide additional doctors and nurses is good. Let’s wait for them to happen.
One of the reasons why Mindorenos hesitate to come back is the lack of services to keep them well and alive. If we have good health facilities, we may even dream of medical tourism in addition to taking care of the health of Mindorenos.
