Puerto Princesa cracks down on cyberporn

Puerto Princesa City is taking a tough approach against cyber pornography and web-based prostitution as it amended an ordinance regulating the operations of computer cafes in the city.

In the revised city law, erring shops could be padlocked, their business permit revoked, fined and face criminal charges. A penalty of up to P5,000 will also be imposed.

Councilor Luis Marcaida III, author of the ordinance, said that children are becoming easy victims by cyber hawks and they are also exposed to web-based pornography through the internet shops.

As such, the ordinance bans the admission of minor or students during school hours without permission from their teachers, parents or guardians.

Computer cafes that will be found violating the ordinance will be slapped with a fine of P3,000 for the first offense, P4,000 for second offense and P5,000 for the third.
