The Department of Education has chosen Bansud, Oriental Mindoro as the new home of Mimaropa regional science high school.
Through Department Order No. 60, the Bansud National Science High School will house students from the entire Mimaropa region, composed of the provinces of Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Palawan and Romblon.
The selection of Bansud was done in coordination with the Bureau of Secondary Education (BSE).
Bansud has a total land area of 30,000 square meters and is attached to one of six existing learning resource centers in the country today. It is located in the middle of the province and is accessible to students from nearby provinces.
The BSE said that Bansud has complied with the requirements for the selection of regional science high schools, which include:
• Enriched curriculum in science, math and English
• Selective student admission
• Selective teaching-hiring procedures
• Class size of 40 students
• Qualified school head/administrator
• Deed of donation in favor of DepED
• Availability of adequate classrooms with tables and chairs
• Air-conditioned computer room with 25 computer units and five printers
• Library with books and references
• Audiovisual room with television sets, radio cassette, overhead projector
• Science laboratory room with apparatus and equipment.
The other regional science high schools in the country are: Dona FL Ortega Memorial NHS in Ilocos; Tumauini NHS, Cagayan Valley; Olongapo City NHS, Central Luzon; Cavite Provincial Science HS, Calabarzon; Ligao NHS, Bicol; Aklan Development NHS, Western Visayas; R. Teves Pastor Memorial SHS, Central Visayas;
Calbiga NHS, Eastern Visayas; Zamboanga HS, Western Mindanao; Gusa NHS, Northern Mindanao; Iligan City East HS, Central Mindanao; Alabel NHS, Southern Mindanao; San Juan NHS, Caraga; Parang NHS, ARMM; Benguet Public HS, CAR; and QC Science HS, Metro Manila.
