A Supercat vessel carrying about 100 passengers from Calapan City port bumped into the ramp as it was about to dock at the port of Batangas early evening Friday, a passenger told The Mindoro Post.
Coast Guard officials in Batangas said that the fastcraft, which left Calapan port at 5 p.m., smashed into the concrete landing bay at around 6:30 p.m. following an engine trouble.
The vessel was left with a hole almost two feet in diameter on its bow.
At least 24 passengers sustained injuries and were taken to local hospitals, Coast Guard officials said.
Most of those hurt were passengers who were already standing and getting ready to disembark as the vessel was about to dock, said Joel Jabal, a Department of Agrarian Reform Official in Oriental Mindoro.
Jabal, who was on board the ship, said the vessel was only able to dock after more than an hour at around 7:20 p.m.
wag kasing mag-unahan sa pagtayo para sa pagbaba hanggat di pa nakasecure ang barko. Madami kasing makulit na kahit tumatakbo pa ang barko ay nasisitayuan na, madami namang bus na naghihintay. Pls. the Safety rules ng barko.
