A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck off Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro before dawn Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
The mild tremor hit at 5:30 a.m. and was located 87 kilometers north of Mamburao at a shallow depth of eight kilometers.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific Ring of fire where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
