Teacher dead, 4 injured in Puerto Princesa road mishap

A member of the Occidental Mindoro delegation to the Regional Athletic Association meet in Puerto Princesa City was killed and four others were injured when the jeepney they were riding lost its brakes and flipped over Sunday morning.

Superintendent Efren Miranda, Puerto Princesa police chief, named the fatality as Cristy Nonog Ramos, a teacher and resident of San Jose.

Injured and rushed to a local hospital were Marlon Ibon, Jerzon Jerzola, Ruby Odesa, and Rommel Sura, all from Occidental Mindoro, Miranda said.

The five were part of the 23-member delegation from the Occidental Mindoro who attended the MIMAROPA regional sports competition held last February 21 to 26 in Puerto Princesa.

On Sunday, February 28, the group decided to visit the underground river in Barangay Sabang in Puerto Princesa.

They were on board a hired jeepney when while traversing the national highway in Barangay Tagbinet the driver lost control of the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to flip over.
