CALAPAN CITY—Two shipping lines have applied to operate Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) vessels for the Mindoro-Caticlan route of the Strong Republic Nautical Highway, a port official said.

Besta Shipping Lines and Super RORO II have applications now awaiting endorsement from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Aklan, Caticlan Jetty Port administrator Niven Maquirang told the state-run Philippine News Agency.

“Already, we have at least eight regular Ro-Ro vessels coming in and out of Caticlan,” Maquirang said.

“But despite of its daily operations, there is still more demand for a shipping vessel for Ro-Ro in the province, thus, improving economic and tourism activity in the province,” he said.

The approval for this additional shipping lines will be an addition to the commercial activities in the province. Hopefully it will have the desired multiplier effect on businesses like transportation, food vendors ,port activities, hospitality services and others from the supply chain. This could also increase the budgeting from the DPWH for infrastructure maintenance.

This increase in commerce is definitely more desirable than dirty industrialization from the introduction of Mining.
